Energy Efficiency
You have the power today, to change tomorrow.
You have the power today, to change tomorrow.
The United States wastes more energy that it uses, and is just 39% energy efficient. More than half of the energy (61% to be exact) that flows through our economy is wasted. This is costly for families and businesses and leads to increased carbon pollution.
Signing up for energy efficiency programs, like Connected Savings, is one of the simplest things you can do to reduce energy waste. Energy efficiency programs help you save money, reduces costs for utilities, lower greenhouse gases, and generate jobs!
Connected Savings analyzes your thermostat usage behavior and compares it to our proprietary weather data. We are trying to understand how your home reacts to weather conditions that impact energy consumption, like wind, precipitation, solar irradiance, humidity, and temperature.
An energy model, simply put, is a simulation of how your home uses and transfers energy. Our team of data scientists creates one for every home we manage and uses it to determine the best times to heat and cool homes to save energy without sacrificing comfort.
Each day, Connected Savings will send your Wi-Fi thermostat a revised thermostat schedule, based on the schedule you set, your home’s unique energy model, and the daily weather forecast. This new schedule won’t change your temperature setpoints but instead, alters the time they’re reached in order to maximize energy savings while being mindful of your comfort. You don’t have to do anything except set a thermostat schedule — we’ll do the rest!
Homes and behaviors change over time. Connected Savings is always learning and updating our energy models with the most current information so we can save you the most energy. Studies have shown that Connected Savings can deliver 3X the savings you would get with just a Wi-Fi thermostat alone!

Schedules tell your thermostat what temperature to keep your house based on the times you leave and return home each day. Higher temperature setpoints in the summer (and lower in the winter) when you’re away from home save more energy and Connected Savings will ensure your home is comfortable when you return.
Here’s a suggested schedule to get you started:
In the summer, for the hours you’re home, program your air conditioning to 75°F. When you’re away from home, set the temperature to 80°F.
In the winter, for the hours you’re home, program your heating to 69°F. When you’re away from home, set the temperature to 63°F.
Without a thermostat schedule, Connected Savings won’t be able to help your thermostat save energy.
Set your thermostat on hold to a high thermostat setpoint like 82°F when you take a vacation this summer. Make sure to cancel the hold using your thermostat mobile app or web portal a few hours before returning home to ensure it’s comfortable when you get back.
