How the AC Rewards Smart Thermostat Program works:

By participating in AC Rewards, adjustments are made to your smart thermostat during the hottest summer days. When the demand for electricity is the highest, you’ll help us manage these peaks and ease the strain on the electrical grid. You’ll be cut back on the time your central air works to cool your home with control events.

You can choose to receive emails notifying you of control events, which may occur anytime during the cooling season. You’ll have the ability to opt out of control events at any time, either from your thermostat, mobile device, or web app. On rare occasions, system emergencies may cause a control event that cannot be overridden.

  • $25 Annual Incentive

    Each October, you will receive your annual $25 incentive for staying enrolled in the program.

  • PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

    • To qualify, you must:
      • Be an Xcel Energy residential electric customer with central air conditioning
      • Install or have an eligible thermostat
      • Have WiFi
      • You are not eligible if:
      • You are a Saver’s Switch participant*
    • Residential AC Rewards regions:
      • Minnesota
      • Colorado
      • Wisconsin
      • South Dakota
    • Business Thermostats
      • Minnesota
      • Colorado
    • *You cannot participate in both Saver’s Switch and AC Rewards. Saver’s Switch participants who choose to switch to AC Rewards will no longer receive bill credits, and the Saver’s switch device will be deactivated. Other restrictions may apply.
